The head of the Japanese Secret Service, Tiger Tanaka's identity is the most closely guarded secret in the Japanese Intelligence Service. In order to avoid identification, Tiger even rides on his own personal subway system to keep him off the streets. Bond makes contact with this highly guarded agent in You Only Live Twice by telling him "I love you", a most unusual secret password.

Personality
Tiger Tanaka possessed many of Bond's characteristics, he had a witty and sarcastic sense of humour, as well as drinking his alcohol at just the correct temperature. Tanaka dressed with perfection and was in perfect physical condition, he was a courageous ally to Bond, and he too had a taste for beautiful women.

Involvement
Without Tanaka's help the mission could well have been a miserable failure. As the head of the Japanese Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), Tanaka was able to pull together the resources and information vital to the success of the mission. After Bond was lead to Tiger's private subway, under some rather unusual circumstances, be that Bond was led down a hallway which had a chute in the floor which Bond fell into, taking him directly to Tanaka's office, the two were able to initiate a massive investigation.
