Composer David Arnold hints at a shift in style for next James Bond - `New Bond, new movie, new sound`
Casino Royale - 20-01-05

David Arnold, who composed the soundtracks for three of Pierce Brosnan's outings as 007 ("Tomorrow Never Dies" - 1997, "The World Is Not Enough" - 1999, "Die Another Day" - 2002) says a new sound will be brought in with the new James Bond in the 21st film in the series.

Responding to a question on his official website, Arnold hinted that there will be a distinct shift in style when the sixth actor to play 007 makes his debut.

Q: "Now that Brosnan has sadly left, I wonder if Mr. Arnold has a new sound for the new Bond planned. "

Arnold responded, "I think it is time to move on, the Brosnan scores were written for the Brosnan pictures, and that is why they are the way they are. New Bond, New movie, New sound."

In July last year, Arnold said in an interview that although he hadn't started writing the soundtrack for Bond 21 yet, it was "going in a very, very interesting direction."

"I think with the movies to date, I think we've taken it to a point where I've exhausted that particular scene of approach. What I'm already thinking of now is, you're at the bottom of the mountain again, and you have to get back up to the top via a different route. I wouldn't discount anything. But I think there is a way of doing Bond differently again, as there always is. That's why we're making the 21st one, because there's always a way of including the familiar and the safe and expected with, hopefully, something unexpected and different."
