Internationally-acclaimed actor Kabir Bedi (who played Gobinda in the 1983 James Bond film "Octopussy") was bestowed with the 'Asian Jewel Lifetime Achievement Award' at a glittering function here to celebrate the achievements of Asians in Britain - reports
Hinustan Times.
NRI hotelier Joginder Sangar received the 'Entrepreneur Excellence Award' at the event while Assistant Commissioner of Police Tarique Ghaffur, who is in-charge of the Specialist Crime Directorate here, won the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' for being the first Indian to achieve such a position in the Metropolitan Police Service.
Bedi, who shot to international fame for his role in the Hollywood film 'Sandokan', said he was "touched" by the honour.
He starred in the James Bond film Octopussy, was the handsome Prince Omar in The Bold and the Beautiful and has also given stellar theatre performances.
Sangar attributed his achievements to "hard work" and full backing from his children - son Girish and daughter Reema - who he said "really deserved the award".
The chairman of Mastcraft Group of companies, Sangar started with a small travel agency in East London in 1965 and today his business consists of 5 star Hotels, Properties, Travel Agencies and life Insurance company.
He is also the vice chairman of the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in West Kensington, London. Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles had inaugurated the newly-renovated Mountbatten Hall at the Bhavan in April.
The function last night was organised by London-based Institute of Asian Professionals and is supported by a number of organisations in the UK.
