Major Derval was Domino Derval's brother, a Vulcan bomber pilot for the NATO air force. Fiona Volpe had seduced Derval, who did not know she was actually a SPECTRE agent. Volpe set up a trap in which she kept Major Derval occupied until his imposter Angelo Palazzi knocked on the door, on opening the door, as much as he was shocked, Major Derval got a face full of Gamma Gas, killing him instantly.
