Jack Wade (Joe Don Baker)
Profile
Character: Jack Wade
Actor: Joe Don Baker
Movie: GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies
Age: 59
Appearence: Solid build, White/Gray hair, loud southern American
accent.
Status: Active
In an interesting reversal, Joe Don Baker took over the role of
Bond's CIA contact, having previously starred as the Bond villain
Brad Whittaker in The Living Daylights. Baker is almost perfect
for the role, with his cynical sneer and realistic view of modern
day espionage. However, his insistence on being over casual and
his frequent references to 007 as "Jimmy" and "Jimbo"
can be a little annoying.
Most memorable quote:
"Hey Jimbo, d'ya do any gardening?"
Involvement
Wade was a wise-cracking CIA agent, assigned as Bond's contact
in St. Petersburg. Bond met up with Jack Wade at the airport with
the secret message "In London, April is a spring month",
after a few wisecrack remarks, Jack repeated, and the two had
made contact. Wade knew a lot about Russian custom's and knew
many people in the area, he was able to arrange for Bond to meet
Valentin Zukovsky. Towards the end of the mission, Wade swapped
Bond a plane for his BMW Z3, and was used by Bond to survey the
island. Finally Wade rescued Bond from Cuba with a team of US
Marines.
Wade played a small role in the Tomorrow Never Dies mission,
when Bond arrived on a US air force base in China, Wade was there
to greet Bond and offer some help with the US' resources. Wade
commented that the US is not concerned with trying to stop World
War III unless they caused it themselves. Wade and some US air
force personal took Bond in a large cargo plane over the site
of the Devonshire, Bond strapped on his oxygen tank and mask and
did a high altitude sky dive.
