Valentin Zukovsky is a Russian Mafia head with a delicate sense of humour and a bullet in his knee (courtesy of 007). A very reluctant ally, he helps Bond to find the mysterious Janus in GoldenEye. Rumour has it that Coltrane enjoyed playing the part so much that he convinced the producers to allow the character to live so that he could reappear in The World Is Not Enough.

Most memorable quote:
"I'm looking for a submarine, it's big and black and the driver is a very good friend of mine."

Involvement
Zukovsky was the feared head of the Russian Mafia in St. Petersburg, a former KGB agent, he was Bond's one time enemy. Bond approached Zukovsky at a nightclub and stuck his in the back of Zukovsky's head, after saying, "only three men use such a gun - - I believe I've killed two of them". After Bond was captured by Zukovsky's men, and was demanded to tell why he dare venture into an old enemies lair, he explained he wanted to do a deal. The deal was that Zukovsky would set up a meeting between Bond and Janus, and in return, Bond would arrange that Zukovsky sell 200 pounds of C4 plastic, the buyer would be arrested, and Zukovsky's man would "get away".

Zukovsky is next seen in The World Is Not Enough where he organises smuggling operations for Elektra King. Bond and Zukovsky talk shop in his casino, where Valentin's history with the Mafia comes in very useful to 007. His latest business venture, a caviar factory, is destroyed when Bond and Christmas Jones visits to seek more information from him. When Zukovsky realises King is attempting to dispose of him and has killed his cousin, the three become allies in a bid to put an end to Elektra's plan. After helping Bond to escape his torture chair, Zukovsky's fate is left in the balance when Elektra shoots him and leaves him for dead.
