Pre-Credits Sequence
The period is cold-war Russia. The agent James Bond 007. GoldenEye opens with a man dressed in black running across a dam with bungee cord. The figure is soon revealed as 007 when the moment of the jump takes place. Bond enters the chemical weapons facility located at the bottom of the dam and meets up with fellow agent 006. The mission is to destroy the facility, however things tour sour at the penultimate moment when 006 is supposedly shot dead. Bond escapes the building after resetting the timers on detonators, but gunfire ensues as 007 steals a motorcycle and catches up with a taxiing plane. Both Bond and the pilot fall out of the plane which then fly's off the end of a cliff, but 007 is quick to pick up another motorcycle and jumps the cliff to free fall after the plane. He catches up, gets inside, takes the controls and then flies off to a background of explosions.

Cut Scenes
Four head butts were cut from the UK version to get the 12 certificate: Xenia's "wait your turn" line to Natalya, and three between Bond and Trevelyan during the cradle fight. Swedish and German audiences lost Bond's "she always liked a good squeeze" quip about Xenia's death. The US version lost a brief shot showing the bullet impact on 006 's head in the teaser sequence, and Xenia's death was trimmer. Bond's rabbit punch on Xenia was cut from both US and UK theatrical releases. The German cinema release cut Trevelyan being crushed by the falling dish. US television cut Ourumov shooting one of his own guards and Xenia's "Blyad!" curse after Bond cocks his gun at the sauna (it translates from Russian as "F**k!").

Best Mistake
The colour of Bond's bungee rope in the opening sequence changes colour.
